Why we do it

Our aim is to provide challenging but fun adventure events for a wide range of ages, abilities and experience levels.

To do this we have developed two event types, “Adventurer” lasting two days and “Explorer” lasting 5 days.  However, they are all based on the same principles: that adventure is more fun in teams; a degree of non-serious competition is a thrill; and the brain should be challenged as much as physical skills.

We have embraced modern mobile technology which allows us to set cheeky navigational dilemmas requiring you to solve problems and make planning decisions on the go.  This planning combined with the challenge of how best to use your teams skills across a wide variety of adventure challenges, will decide if your team gets the edge over your fellow competitors, who you can keep tabs on through a real-time leader board.

Sharing the experience with others is all part of the Wild & Remote ethos, so social gatherings  at the start, finish and sometimes during the event as well as regular social media updates, allow us all to share each others joy…….and sometimes pain!

James Harris

James has always had a passion for exploring and adventure. He joined the Army at the age of 18, where for over 25 years he led expeditions to extreme regions, ranging from the Arctic to the Antarctic. He founded Wild & Remote as he wanted to share his passion for adventure and to give a wide variety of people the fun and thrill of adventure events; competing in teams and sharing the experience.

Kate Harris

Kate is James’s daughter. Growing up in North Devon she has always been a very ‘outdoorsy’ person, with a love of running, horse riding, cycling and exploring. She worked in London for three years before giving up city life to experience six months of adventure in South Island, New Zealand. She is now back in Devon combining her love for the outdoors with her creative skills helping James launch Wild & Remote!

Sheron Harris

Sheron is James’s wife. A former midwife and now part-time art dealer. She grew up sailing, rowing and running in Devon. Her love of the sea still remains but she has recently taken up gravel biking which has enabled her to explore the fantastic West Country. No job is too big or too small, she’s always on hand to make a cup of tea or locate a much needed plaster! She’s excited to join her husband and daughter on their new venture.
