HOW A WILD & REMOTE EXPEDITION WORKS

YOUR PAIR. ONE BIGGER EXPEDITION.

Wild & Remote is more than an adventure race, and certainly not a guided trip.

Come with a mate or apply on your own and we'll help you find a suitable partner. You'll navigate, choose your routes and make your own decisions, sometimes working alongside other pairs to tackle a bigger challenge.

There'll be competition, changing conditions and the occasional unexpected problem. You'll need to use your head as well as your legs, look after one another and know when to change the plan.

At the end of the day, everyone comes back together to share a meal, catch up and enjoy being part of the expedition. Our professional team takes care of the organisation and support, but the adventure is yours.

Your PAIR STAYS · THE MISSION SETS THE TEAM

Your Pair: two expedition partners navigate, make decisions and look after one another throughout the expedition.
The Mission: each expedition stage has an objective with routes, checkpoints, timings and decisions.
The Team: expedition pairs may combine into larger teams when the terrain or objective requires it
One Expedition: shared camps, briefings and the overall mission bring all expeditioners back together.

HOW A STAGE WORKS

Every expedition has one overall mission, broken into Stages with a clear Stage mission or objective. A Stage may take one Field Day or continue across several — a Field Day is simply a day operating in the field — and the formation, scoring and overnight arrangements follow what that Stage needs.

EXPEDITION GRADES

Every Wild & Remote expedition is given a simple grade to help you judge the overall level of challenge. Our grades reflect the usual mix of distance, terrain, duration, navigation, conditions and self-reliance. They are a guide rather than a guarantee, so always read the expedition page and full brief carefully before applying.

THE RULES

We keep rules to a minimum (we hate rules!). Stay with your team, find and log the checkpoints, make your own decisions and look out for one another. Each expedition briefing sets out the scoring, timings, equipment and any additional requirements. Safety and good judgement always come first.

We offer a veterans handicap for eligible teams, while electric-assisted bikes are welcome on designated expeditions, with separate scoring.
